2026 Anthology Submission Instructions
New Submissions
If you’re new to NMSPS or just taking advantage of this deadline extension to submit your poetry, please read the Guidelines below before sending your submission. (If you are not a member, sign up here.)
Re-Submission
If you already submitted your poems to the anthology during the earlier submission period ending October 31 and received a confirmation email from Zach Kluckman, you’re set! If you never received a confirmation email, simply re-send your submission.
Guidelines for Poetry Submissions to Cadence!
All NMSPS Members are invited to submit their poems for the members-only anthology Cadence! to be published in early 2027. Contributing members will be able to purchase the books at discount at next year’s Poets Picnic and NMSPS 2027 State Convention.
🔵 Eligibility: Submission is free and open to all members, but the number of entries permitted varies. Attendees at the 2026 NMSPS State Convention (via Zoom on Sunday, May 31, 2026) may submit up to 5 poems. Other entrants are limited to 3 poems. All NMSPS members are strongly encouraged to enter, even if you did not attend the 2026 NMSPS Convention.
🔵 Submission Period: The original October 31 deadline has been extended to midnight, November 15.
🔵 Parameters : Poets may submit up to 3 poems (5 poems if a 2026 NMSPS State Convention participant), with a maximum of 7 pages total across all poems. The anthology will be in standard 6” x 9” paperback format. We may not be able to include poems that have very long lines or overly eccentric formatting. We will try to accommodate creative formatting, but we reserve the right (working with you) to edit the poem to fit the page.
Any style, form, or voice is welcome; poems will be read and considered equally, without bias. We ask only that submissions show respect for the dignity of others. Hate speech or work that intentionally demeans or targets individuals or communities will not be considered.
Poems must be original and previously unpublished; publication includes personal blogs, websites, and social media posts. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but if another publication selects your poem, please email Zach to withdraw it from Cadence! consideration.
🔵 Format: Please format your work in easily read 12-point font such as Times New Roman or Arial and submit it in Word or PDF format. Single spacing is fine. Your poem can be up to two pages long, but no more than one poem per page. In the text of your submission email, put your name, email address, NMSPS chapter membership, and poem titles. Send each poem as a single attachment to the email.
🔵 What to expect: You should receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submission. In December, poets will be notified of the status of their entries. Publication of Cadence! will occur in time for the April 2027 NMSPS State Convention and the May 2027 deadline for the NM Book Awards.
🔵 Pre-order Cadence! Members may pre-order the anthology next spring on our Website (www.nmpoetry.com) using the registration page that will be posted for the 2027 NMSPS State Convention. All members can pre-pay at a discounted convention price, and authors will be able to pre-order additional copies at a special rate. Watch our website for further info on publication, delivery, and pricing — and upcoming CALLS FOR CADENCE! COVER ART.
